LCC: What were you doing at COP15?
Yong Ping Loo: I had two main roles, I was Head of Creatives with ECO Singapore and Asian Team Leader with Project Survival Media (PSM).

Prior to the summit, I worked with PSM to coordinate media teams in the Fiji Islands, Indonesia and Philippines to produce short documentaries along the theme of survival and rising sea levels. In addition, I designed the PSM trade stand for COP15, PSM logos (for Flickr, YouTube) and produced the PSM opening title sequence.

ECO Singapore is a youth-led NGO focused on environmental issues in Singapore. I was responsible for the content published on our COP15 blog and other online platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, etc. The blog was our primary outreach tool to share our experiences and insights to COP15 and served as a network base with other Asian Youth Climate organizations.

LCC: As a designer what inspires you?
Yong Ping Loo: I draw inspiration from everything I see, magazines, TV, the internet, event flyers, advertisements, natural scenery, current issues and books. I also have an avid interest in digital technology and interactive design and would love to combine the natural with digital space.

I am passionate in using design and media to benefit communities and people at large. I believe that good design can change the world and not just to serve as eye candy.

Yong Ping believes that good design can save the world. What are your views? Are you a design student currently using your creative skills to make positive change? If so, tell us about your projects and share your views with us here.
